Early Years Unit
The Unit operates two sessions for nursery-aged children: Reception-aged children phase to full-time
9.00am - 12pm;
1.10pm - 3.10pm;
Nursery children will attend one of these sessions (half day).
There is the capacity for 52 children in the Nursery and 26 may attend each session.
Nursery
Most of the children attend our Nursery class before coming into the school, and parents can put their children's name down for Nursery as soon as they are 2 years old. You are welcome to visit and see the Early Years Unit and school in action, but it is better to ring first and make an appointment, so that the Headteacher is available to talk to you and someone is available to show you round.
The Local Health Authority (LHA) will send you an application form in which you will indicate your Nursery preference and this must be sent to the school of your choice. We will then forward it to the Local Education Authority (LEA). It is important that this form is filled in. They will then inform you (and us) of your allocation and once you have accepted the place offered, we will contact you the half-term before your child is due to begin. We would like you to bring your child along to visit the Early Years Unit before admission, so that both you and your child can meet the teacher and get an idea of the lay-out of the room. Please note that all forms issued by the LHA or LEA have to be filled in even if your child has already started in the Nursery.
Phasing to Reception
When your child is in the Nursery you will be sent a second form by the LHA in which to indicate your preference of Primary school. Again this must be handed in to the school of your choice and we will forward it to the LEA. It is vital that this form is filled in as there is no automatic place in the Reception Class. If you want your child to come to Kenilworth, he/she will phase naturally through to Reception within our Early Years Unit. This transfer will be stress-free as your child will already know and be working with all the Reception staff in the unit. We have a standard number of 30 places in Reception class.
